Ansbach, Bavaria police guard crime scene after an explosion at a music festival killed one and injured twelve Sunday night, July 24, 2016.

Sunday night a man carrying an explosive device into an open-air music festival in the town of Ansbach, near Nuremberg, was killed and twelve other people injured, three critically, when the device detonated.

Update: The man is now identified as Mohammad Daleel (right), a 27 year old Syrian asylum seeker who arrived in Germany two years ago. His application for asylum was rejected last year, but he had been allowed to remain temporarily and was living in an apartment in the town. [Courtesy of the federal government, of course.] He had twice before tried to commit suicide and had received psychiatric care!

He had in his possession a video in which he declared his allegiance to Abu Bakr al-Bagdadi, Islamic State's (IS) top leader. In examining the accommodation where the man lived, investigators also found materials to build more bombs, such as soldering iron and batteries. In addition, the officers found two mobile phones with multiple SIM cards and a laptop safe. Violent videos were stored with Islamist orientation and Salafist contents.

He detonated his explosive device outside a wine bar during the festival. He had been barred from entering the festival because he didn't have a ticket. Just two weeks ago he was ordered deported to Bulgaria (could not be returned to Syria because it is a war zone). [This could be why he decided to carry out a suicide bombing. He should have been locked up from that point on. -cy] His housemate said he lied all the time and wanted to be the center of attention.

As of December 2015, Germany has 155,103 rejected asylum applicants living under the status of "Toleration," waiting to be deported. They cannot move around freely and must remain in a particular area. [This definitely strikes me as asking for trouble. -cy]

Police said in a statement that "a man, according to our current knowledge the perpetrator, died" in the blast in the town where an open-air music festival was being held on Sunday night.

Ansbach Mayor Carda Seidel said the explosion was near to an entrance of the festival. There were 2,500 people attending the event which was canceled after the blast was heard at about 10 p.m. local time (20.00 UTC).

Bavaria's Interior Ministry has confirmed that the explosion appeared to have been intentional. "At present we assume it was not an accident," a spokesman said on Sunday night. "We are assuming it was an intentional explosion."

Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann is on his way to the town.

Blast follows Munich attack

The blast in Ansbach was the fourth violent incident in a week. It occurred just after Friday night's gun attack in Munich which left nine people dead.

There were services held throughout Germany on Sunday in memory of the victims.

Also on Sunday, a 21-year-old male refugee from Syria who was known to authorities for previous acts of violence killed one [pregnant] woman and injured two more people [updated now to five] in the city of Reutlingen [Baden-Württenberg] in southwest Germany.

Last week [night of July 18, 7 days ago], a man carried out an attack, armed with an ax, on a train near Würzburg on Monday. Five people were injured in that attack [some critically].

From a new DW article:

German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said the Syrian man's removal had been suspended temporarily because of his "psychological instability." But Bavarian authorities said he had received his expulsion orders nearly two weeks before he blew himself up. His deportation was expected to have taken place within 30 days.

How stupid this is. First, it's clear the needs and sensitivities of migrants come before the well-being of Germans. In this case about 35 were injured, some seriously, because of concern for this foreign invader's mental stability.

Second, When you tell someone they're going to be deported to BULGARIA, when they're Syrian, and then give them 30 days or more to wait, it shouldn't be a surprise at all if they do something violent in the meantime. In this case, they already knew he was "psychologically unstable"!! Interior Minister Maiziere ought to be tried and convicted in the place of the dead man!
