Ted Cruz signs Senate letter demanding more money for Israel

EIGHTY-THREE OF THE 100 SENATORS, including Ted Cruz (above), have signed a letter demanding that Israel be given more cash than ever before.

The letter—which originated with the American Israel Political Action Committee (AIPAC), one of the US’s most prominent Jewish lobbies, urges a more “robust” defense package for Israel, and has so far gathered the signatures of 51 Republican and 32 Democrat senators.

The letter, addressed to President Obama, says that, in “light of Israel’s dramatically rising defense challenges, we stand ready to support a substantially enhanced new long-term agreement to help provide Israel the resources it requires to defend itself and preserve its qualitative military edge.”  Equality is not good enough for Israel, it requires a vastly superior military technology in order to hold its own.

The letter claims that Israel is a “central pillar” of the US’s national strategy in the Middle East. What kind of a strategy is it when you committ to a nation that cannot defend itself without huge and ongoing resouces provided by the U.S taxpayer? It sounds like a very bad deal for us, but great for "the Jewish state."

The letter lists three main threats to Israel: Hezbollah, Syria and Iran.

The letter did not provide a figure for the increased suggested aid, but earlier “negotiations” between the Israeli and US governments indicate that the final figure is to be anywhere between $4 and $5 billion per year. Taxpayer money! From the Congression Research Service:

Israel is the largest cumulative recipient of U.S. foreign assistance since World War II. To date, the United States has provided Israel $124.3 billion (current, or non-inflation-adjusted, dollars) in bilateral assistance. Almost all U.S. bilateral aid to Israel is in the form of military assistance, although in the past Israel also received significant economic assistance.

A White House official said, “We are prepared to sign an MOU with Israel that would constitute the largest single pledge of military assistance to any country in US history.” 

What it comes down to is that it is up to the United States to cough up the cash for whatever defensive weaponry Israel requires ... in perpetuity. This, while out own infrastructure crumbles. We know that Ted Cruz is fine with this. How will a President Trump handle it according to the foreign policy doctrine he outlined in his recent speech?
